Report on Cosmo Earth Conscious Act in Zushi, hosted by Tokyo FM

Held on Sunday, March 19, 2023

Cosmo Earth Conscious Act in Zushi was held, sponsored by Tokyo FM. We at the University of Tokyo DLX Design Lab participated in the event in our role of explaining the microplastic sampling method. Tomomi Souda, a specially appointed researcher at the University of Tokyo DLX Design Lab, also had the opportunity to take the stage to give the introduction and closing remarks. This time, we were in charge of instructing the approximately 300 participants.

An event of this scale would have been difficult to realize without the cooperation of media and companies such as Tokyo FM and Cosmo Oil. Three Tokyo FM radio personalities, LOVE, Hamasaki, and Bizan, also attended, and the mayor of Zushi City, Kirigaya, also attended, making it a very successful event.

It was our first experience of holding an event of this scale, but we were able to collect many microplastic samples, and we were happy to see that the participants were enjoying the event. What impressed us most was the high level of enthusiasm of the participants. We learned a lot from this experience, as it made us realize that there are so many people who are trying to take new action against environmental issues. Radio personality LOVE also took an interest in our activities. We are very grateful for this kind of attention, but what is important is steady progress.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone at Zushi City Hall, Tokyo FM, and Cosmo Oil for reaching out to us for this opportunity, as giving us the opportunity to appear in such a public forum is an encouragement for our research activities.
