Our Tail Fin and Vortex devices can be build by anyone who has access to a standard fab cafe tool selection.
We are aiming to open-source our designs to make the experience of sampling micro plastic accessible to a wide range of people.
We hope that the know-how we could accumulate so far will be beneficial to your projects!

How-To-Make
Filter Compartment
The filter mesh ist clamped between the two acrylic domes of different diameter.
In our first iteration, the filter mesh was held in place by the rivets which also connected the two acrylic dome parts.
However, using click locks allows for the fiter to be easily exchanged on the fly.
The graphics below show you the layout of the construction. Nearly all parts are being fixed in place by blind rivets.
Pump compartment
The bilge pump is placed inside a bucket which is equipped with a hose connector and float bodies. There are water intakes in the lid as well as in the bottom of the bucket. By closing the cap of one of the intakes the depth of sampling can be chosen (Surface water sampling / 45cm below water surface sampling).
