OMNI Marine Litter Project Kickoff

Zushi x University of Tokyo Beach Clean Idea Workshop


On June 2, 2022, participants with various backgrounds involved in beach cleanup in Zushi City will gather, and if Zushi City and the University of Tokyo collaborate on the theme of beach cleanup to reduce marine litter, We held a workshop to think about what we can do as a kickoff for the project.


With the theme of beach cleaning on the Zushi coast, the workshop was held with participants from various sectors such as local governments, citizens, and universities. I worked on the first half of drawing the ideal Zushi coast, and the second half of coming up with ideas for beach cleaning to realize it.


In the first half, Mr. Daiki Kobayashi, chairman of the Zushi Coast Marine Federation, gave a talk about the efforts of the Zushi Coast. In the second half, each group thought about what they would like to see in order to realize the ideal Zushi coast, inspired by examples from around the world that promote design and behavioral changes that lead to the reduction of marine litter. , was output using the prototyping kit.


Each group, issues of beach users' awareness of marine litter, how to recognize and enjoy beach cleaning itself, what is necessary to prevent litter in the first place, how to circulate resources beyond just the beach It was an output of ideas that showed each problem awareness and important questions, such as the perspective of whether it is possible.
