Vortex and Tailfin devices can be built by anyone with standard Fabcafe level equipment and work. We want to make these open source so that a wide variety of people can experience microplastic sampling. We hope that these findings will be useful for your projects.

How to make
Filter section
The filter consists of two acrylic hemispherical bowls of different sizes, sandwiching the filter between them. The two bowls can be fixed with rivets, but a snap lock makes it easy to replace the filter.
Blind rivets are used to fix each part.
Pump Section
The pump is a marine bilge pump, fixed to a bucket with a float and a hose connector. There are two water inlets, top and bottom, so you can choose the sampling position by attaching a cap to either one.
